THE POSITION WE’RE LOOKING TO FILL: Office & Operations Support Manager.

We need an ambitious, responsible, organised, reliable, smart and personable individual to help continue our growth by firstly supporting, and later taking responsibility for ShoNet’s office-based activities.

  • To be the central point of contact for existing and prospective customers, assisting with enquiries, first line support and marketing.
  • To be the glue binding together the rest of our busy team engaged with delivering customer projects.
  • To support the ongoing development of an in-house developed school curriculum app.


THE PERSON WE’RE LOOKING FOR:  The successful applicant will need to be able to provide quality in the manner we are known for - namely our ability to communicate, to deliver on schedule and to manage our projects exceptionally – and be competent, efficient, effective, inquisitive and motivated whether dealing with routine activity, exploring new ways of working / opportunities, or under pressure due to customer demands.

  • An individual with a degree or professional qualification.
  • Is excited by, and has experience of, the potential and power of technology to deliver digital information.
  • Must be digital-savvy and, if not already held, to pursue and achieve through ShoNet, accreditation in key applications such as, Salesforce.com, Conga Composer and Demand Tools.
  • Will ideally, already have experience as an office administrator, support desk administrator or project manager.
  • Will have excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
     

RESPONSIBILITIES / MAIN DUTIES

CUSTOMER SERVICES: Be first point of contact for existing and new customers.

PRODUCT SUPPORT: Maintain an up-to-date appreciation of Salesforce.com and its capabilities.

PRODUCT LEAD: Be the main point of contact for the ShoNet developed school curriculum app.

TEAM SUPPORT:  Assist the Director and rest of team in ad-hoc duties ranging from:

  • Business development
  • Support desk activities
  • Marketing

OFFICE GENERAL: Manage ShoNet’s office including the coordination of activities and operations to secure efficiency and compliance.

OTHER: Always act as an ambassador for ShoNet and contribute to the growth and success of the business through being a team-player and one which brings benefit.
 

PACKAGE:

• Starting salary of £26,000 to £30,000 plus accredited training

• 28 days leave (including public holidays)

Monitoring & Evaluation for Charities: How to measure what matters

 

'Value for Money', Return on Investment', 'Social Value', 'Impact Measurement'.  We are surrounded by buzz words and new fads for proving that what we do really is for the social good and really can make a measurable difference.  Understanding how to measure impact and then putting in place a cost effective system to do this can seem daunting.  There is a useful saying to keep in mind though that provides a great starting point, "What gets measured, matters.  So make sure you measure what matters."

 

Many charities and civil society organisations baulk at having to make more funds available to measure and prove what they already know: that they are making a difference.  Yet, measuring impact is a valuable source of management information.  Done well, monitoring and evaluation can provide a rich source of beneficiary feedback and programme performance that can also be used to improve your interventions and projects, making them more relevant and likely to deliver lasting change.  Building a monitoring and evaluation system is not necessarily a complicated or expensive process, but navigating the various tools and processes sometimes does need a little help. 

 

A good place to start is your current management information system.  You already know about the benefits of Salesforce for running your organisation efficiently and collecting fundraising and general management information that helps you to keep an eye on the bottom line.  Salesforce can however be more than that.  It can help you to make sense of monitoring data, so that you can keep track of the different projects you're running: how many people are being reached, what they think of the projects that they participate in, which projects are on track, which need further attention. 

 

Of course to make this happen for you, two things will need to be in place: an overall monitoring and evaluation plan, including a policy approach to monitoring and evaluation that your organisation is signed up to, secondly a set of relevant data collection tools that capture project performance in both a qualitative and quantitative manner, and which can be linked to Salesforce. 

 

It is important to understand exactly what you want to measure, why you want to measure it and who will use the data in order to design an effective system for data collection and analysis.  Understanding this 'what', 'why' and 'who' will start you on the road to effective and efficient monitoring and evaluation, which will make a valuable difference to your organisation.

Last month, ShoNet, in partnership with Spofforths, hosted a free workshop for non-profits on digital transformation at NCVO. Digital Transformation and YOU provided attendees with an insight into how to help their charities go ‘digital’ – with tips on forming a digital vision, implementing Salesforce and integration with Xero. On the day, our clients Save The Rhino International (SRI) and The Officers’ Association gave presentations about their digital transformation journeys.

1.       Do a digital self-assessment

Start with a self-assessment to measure your organisation’s digital maturity. Attendees completed a survey titled “How digital are you now?” provided by our partners at Improvement Skills Consulting. Who is accountable for digital transformation at your organisation? What digital skills do you look for when recruiting or promoting staff?  Before planning where you’d like to go on your digital transformation journey, figure out where you are now - download this White Paper by Improvement Skills Consulting on digital transformation in charities to access a digital self-assessment questionnaire.

 

2.       Research, research, research

Do your research to find a solution that meets your charity’s needs exactly. Whether it’s deciding which social media platforms you’d like to use or choosing between different types of CRM software, have a clear idea of what you need and research to find out what would work best for your charity. Our panellists from Spofforths and The Officers’ Association advised: always go for customisable software and choose CRM software that allows you to integrate across all of your platforms (CRM, website, mobile apps, etc.).

 

3.       Think of the cost of not doing it!

Many charities find that the biggest barrier to digital transformation is the cost, as highlighted by our panellist from SRI. But investing in new software can pay off in the long-run – and it did for SRI. After implementing Salesforce, they had a 39% increase in online donations! Plus, adopting new technology may be more affordable than you think. Salesforce offer 10 FREE Enterprise Edition licenses to eligible non-profit organisations and there are deep discounts for additional products. 4.       Map your processes

If you’re looking to be more efficient and cut time spent on admin, you’re probably thinking about automating your processes. It’s crucial to map your processes properly and get advice on how best to do this, so that adopting new technology enables you to maximise your organisation’s performance effectively.

 

5.       Make sure the process of change is dynamic, fun and exciting!

Last but not least, we really liked the advice for charities from our event partners at Spofforths: “We’re all under pressure to go digital, but we’re not all robots!” See your organisation’s change and digital transformation journey as an opportunity to have fun, creating more time for you and your team to interact with your beneficiaries - and for you to do more of the work you really enjoy! :)

In May, ShoNet attended Salesforce World Tour London at ExCeL. With over 15,000 registrants and 100 cloud partners, it was the biggest Salesforce event held outside of the US and one of the largest software events held in the UK.

Salesforce World Tour events provide an occasion for those in the Salesforce community to get together, share knowledge and learn. The event provided attendees with the opportunity to gain insight into the future of the customer experience and the rapid growth of cloud computing.
